We are going to look at the Gallery, the FX Wizard and the Explore Section, but before that let’s see what makes all of this possible, the patented Twinkly mapping technology which, in just a couple of steps, gives you control of your lights no matter how you position them.

The Twinkly mapping feature: Unlock the power to customize your lights

The Twinkly app will ask you to map your lights when you connect to them and then guide you through the easy process that uses your smartphone camera to visualize and memorize the position of your smart LED lights no matter how you place them. All you have to do is follow the on-screen instructions, frame the display in your camera, and let the lights do their magic.

The result is a map of your LED layout on your phone’s screen. Effects Gallery: Built-in color schemes, gradients & animations

One of the most exciting sections of the Twinkly app is the Effects Gallery, a treasure trove of preset color lighting effects, both static and animated, that instantly elevate the ambiance of any space with artistic flare, dynamism and pure energy. From soft, warm glows to vibrant bursts of color and festive vibes, the Effects Gallery allows users to change their lights with a tap of a finger. The power to set the perfect scene is in the palm of your hand. 

Depending on the model of your Twinkly lights (Strings, Squares, Flex, etc...), effects that appear in the app will vary. You can choose to play the presets as they are or customize them.

When you tap on an effect you will find the option to edit it. The adjustable parameters that appear depend on the specific effect and may include customizing the colors, adjusting the angle of the animation, and personalizing the speed of the animation. This can be useful for when you like the design but need a different color theme, or for when you like the color scheme but don’t want the movement.

Don’t be afraid to play around and modify the lighting effects - you won’t replace the original. When tap apply to save the personalized effect, the app will ask you to name the new version.

In the Effects Gallery, you can also create a playlist of effects for Generation II devices by touching the playlist icon in the top left corner and following the instructions. You can also find the effects you have created with the FX Wizard as well as your downloaded effects… both of which we’ll look at now.

FX Wizard: Design your own light show

For those seeking a truly personalized touch, the FX Wizard is where innovation meets individuality. It is the most cutting-edge and easy to use feature of the Twinkly app. Whether you have an eye for design or just like to play around, the possibilities are as limitless as your imagination. Build upon existing templates, color each smart LED light with your fingertip or upload GIFs. 

Access the FX Wizard from the Effects Gallery by tapping on the wand in the top right corner. 

To build from a template, choose a pattern and adjust it as you please. Then hit the checkmark to go to the next step. Tap the + box on your screen to add a second layer. We suggest trying the Color layer, which will let you choose the color scheme of your effect. You can also layer on different patterns. To delete a layer, press on it until the Delete option appears. 

Before you hit save, try the blending feature which brings a unique level of harmony between layers and to your overall design.

When you choose to draw your own effect, the first thing you see is a map of your smart LED lights and customizable color options. When you have your shade selected, you can start drawing. You’ll see options to use wide lines, thin lines or sparkling lines which make your LEDs shimmer in the color of your choice. There is even an option to erase the colors from individual LEDs. This third way to create your own light design is by importing a GIF that you have saved on your phone. The quality of the animation will depend on the density and layout of your lights.

Explore Section: Get the latest news, inspiration and downloads

The Explore Section of the Twinkly app is where you will find all the news and new effects for your smart LED lights. Twinkly releases creative new animations to inspire your home lighting decorations throughout the year. Keep an eye out during special occasions like holidays and new product launches. Access the Explore Section by clicking on the compass in the bottom center of the screen. 

Tap Download New Effects to find all the downloadable effects. Browse through the special collections or click on the top right corner icon to view the entire gallery of downloadable effects.
